Week 20 - Halfway cooked

  • Sleep: Not sure what the deal was this week, but I woke up in the middle of the night for hours on end a few days this week. One night DB even got up too and we watched some standard 3am TV programming.
  • Exercise: I've been running all over the place this week.  It's been a super busy week with getting ready for the holidays, etc.  Not to mention, my new office has tons of stairs, so there's been LOTS of stair climbing this week.
  • Cravings/Aversions: I still love sweets, but there's been nothing strong this week, although it has been hard for me to resist sodas.
  • Weight: 12 lbs up...pretty hot
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: The aches and pains! BB is pushing pretty hard to my right side and so when I lay on my right side, there's clearly an organ or two that is getting smashed.  Also, after long periods of sitting at work, I've got a sore back and tailbone.  I had to invest in a butt pillow this week...also pretty hot.
  • What I am looking forward to: Starting the nursery decor planning.  I've got a few ideas, but trying to get the whole vision in place.  Plus the room is a little small, so trying to tell myself that I probably can't put in all the furniture I'm envisioning.
  • Think it's funny that: I look rrrrreally pregnant.  Some of my friends this week have just looked at me and said "woah"
  • Favorite Moment this week: Well it had to be the moment we'd been waiting for...we're having a girl!  So excited to have a little lady join the Barney family and we both couldn't be more happy.  I'm secretly relieved because I have no idea what to do with a baby boy. I see lots of cute outfits in her future.  We've got a name picked out, but we're giving it a test run this week just to be sure.
  • And last but not least: Here's a pic of the little lady waving for mama and papa during the ultrasound this week.

Week 19

  • Sleep: Going as well as can be expected...had a whole week of not having to get up to pee in the middle of the night
  • Exercise: After the weight scare this week, I really got my butt in motion. Lots of stairs and brisk walking three times so far this week.
  • Cravings/Aversions: Oh man, sweets...sweets....sweets! I need something sweet all the time.  Yesterday I actually bought a piece of cake to eat after lunch. Today it was a cookie.  That explains the weight jump
  • Weight: 11 lbs up.  Whoa! Scary scale this week. Totally trying to take better inventory of what I eat so I don't end up +40 lbs by the end of this.  I need to gain 20-25 overall, so being halfway there before I'm halfway there is not good.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: Restless legs.  I've been getting restless legs every night when I get in bed.  Usually it means about 15-20 minutes of shaking them out, then I'm good to go.
  • What I am looking forward to: You know, that whole gender screening thing next week.
  • Think it's funny that: It seems like everyone is pregnant.  Everytime I turn around, I'm hearing about a friend or celeb that's knocked up.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Moving into a new office at work.  I know it has nothing to do with BB, but me and the bean have lots more room now in our new office space.
  • And last but not least: You ain't gettin a bump picture this week, but here's a picture of the super chic diaper bag I've ordered.  It arrived last week and it's enormous...can't wait to put it to good use.

Week 17/18

  • Sleep: Sleeping really well and not all that tired all the time.
  • Exercise: Going for walks and chasing around nieces
  • Cravings/Aversions: Not anything specific, but I definitely want more sweets than I ever have before.  Seems like I need candy just about everyday.
  • Weight: 7 lbs up.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: Not drinking! Especially during the holidays when everyone is kicking back and enjoying.
  • What I am looking forward to: Knowing BB's gender and registering!
  • Think it's funny that: I look like a total pear right now (see photo).  My boobs are the same size but my belly and butt are bigger.  Actually, it's more like a punching bag that you can knock down that will pop right back up.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Strangers are now starting to recognize that I'm pregnant.  Last night at dinner, our waiter immediately offered up decaf iced tea and pickles with ice cream.
  • And last but not least: A bump picture.

Week 15/16

  • Sleep: There was one day last week that I slept for 10 hours.  I don't go to bed at crazy early times, but I do enjoy sleeping for about 9-10 hours a night.
  • Exercise: Walking here and there.  Pilates when I can get around to it. And mainly a lot of standing on my feet when I'm doing makeup jobs.
  • Cravings/Aversions: Nothing but I'm starting to feel less appalled by food and have noticed me wanting to eat a little more than usual.  Hello three breakfast tacos!
  • Weight: Up about 6 lbs overall.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: OK this is weird, but noticing how much my boobs have changed!  I won't get into details, but they def look different.
  • What I am looking forward to: Finding out the BB's sex! Which I've schedule for the crack of dawn on Dec. 15.  I'm pretty sure it's a boy and will be (pleasantly) surprised if the doctor says we're having a little lady.
  • Think it's funny that: Everything is about to get a little crazy(er).  I know that with the holidays rapidly approaching and us finding out the sex on Dec 15, things are going to get a nuts around the house.  Between prepping for house guests and Thanksgiving, we've also got a nursery to set up.  I just know that once 2011 hits, this baby will be here before we know it.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Finally wanting food again.  It's been a long 4 months of not enjoying food and now my appetite has definitely increased
  • And last but not least: Here's a bump picture for you...gotta say, I don't love taking these every week...

Week 14

  • Sleep: I get tired at normal times now, but I HATE getting up in the morning.  Why can't I sleep all day?
  • Exercise: I was in LA all week, so there was a lot of walking (and driving) that went along with it.  I went back to my favorite Pilates place in Beverly Hills, which used to really kick my butt and I thought I was going to die.  Luckily the teacher was very nice and understanding.  I was so sore for the next two days that I had the pregnancy waddle going in full effect.
  • Cravings/Aversions: Nothing really this week, but I'm back to enjoying french fries...oops.  Oh and I'm loving/wanting sweets more so than I ever did before
  • Weight: Didn't weigh myself
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: OH man - it's still the headaches.  I had a sinus headache so bad on Sunday that stayed with me for a straight 36 hours.  I was miserable.  Took my taking sinus medicine (not Tylenol) to finally kick it for good.
  • What I am looking forward to: My next check-up, seeing how baby is doing and scheduling the anatomy screening!  I really don't care if it's a boy or a girl, I just want a healthy baby.  Although boys I think are easier, we have cuter names picked out for a girl (and cuter clothes)
  • Think it's funny that: People stare at my tummy all the time.  I'm in that weird showing phase where people aren't sure if I've just got a big gut or if I'm pregnant.  I usually will rub my stomach to let them know it's OK for them to stare because it's not just fat!
  • Favorite Moment this week: Telling all of my LA friends.  None of them knew and at first they were all just confused by how big I'd gotten...one friend said to me "Why are you glowing?"...it was a guy so I didn't expect him to put two-and-two together.
  • And last but not least: Here is this week's bump picture! Not a whole lot different from last week and much lower quality (and in the same shirt)

Week 13

  • Sleep: I'm not nearly as tired as I used to be, but man is it hard for me to get out of bed.
  • Exercise: Tons of walking and going back to pilates tomorrow...
  • Cravings/Aversions: I still love a lemon from time-to-time, but nothing really crazy recently.  Definitely not loving food that's bad for me and realized the smell of pumpkin is a real turnoff right now.
  • Weight: Lost a little this week, so only up about 2.5 lbs
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: Headaches...apparently they come with the second tri territory
  • What I am looking forward to: Just cruisin' along right now. Kind of just enjoying it...
  • Think it's funny that: I'm showing. Like full-on showing.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Telling everyone that would listen! It's funny because it's old news to me, but exciting and fun for everyone else.  This baby is going to have a lot of "aunts" and "uncles."
  • And last but not least: Here is this week's bump picture!

Man, oh man...how does one pose for a photo like this?

Week 12

  • Sleep: Going in and out of being sleepy and being totally fine.  I'm hoping that means the exhaustion is going away.
  • Exercise: Walking occasionally and ran about 2 miles through the airport today to try to get to my gate in time.  I plan on going back to pilates this week.
  • Cravings: lemons. lemons. LEMONS!
  • Weight: I'm up about 3-4 lbs.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: Oh I got a new one - headaches and a stuffy nose.
  • What I am looking forward to: Finally telling everyone about the bean! I've slowly started telling a select few, but it's been fun so far.
  • Think it's funny that: I'm already wearing maternity clothes. Those bands that go around my pants don't do me any good, so I just went and skipped ahead to maternity clothes.  Most maternity pants are too big for me and end up falling down repeatedly.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Seeing the bean and having him actually LOOK like a baby! We're wrapping up the first trimester and it's cool to see that there's actually a little baby in there and not just a blob that has a heartbeat.

Week 10-11

  • Sleep: Still tired.  Still not getting enough.
  • Exercise: Haven't been able to get much this week.  Read below.
  • Cravings: Lemons, salad, and milk
  • Weight: I'm up about 2 lbs still.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: aversion to smells.
  • What I am looking forward to: Ending the first trimester
  • On a another note: Things have been a little crazy this week.  Bobbie (DB's mom), had been diagnosed with cervical and ovarian cancer around April/May of this year, and things have progressed pretty quickly.  Over the last week, she experienced a deep decline and sadly, passed away this past Sunday.  We spent as much time with her as we could, but I'm very sad that our baby will not get to spend any time with his Grammy.  She was very excited about the arrival of the Barney baby, and I know she would have been an amazing presence for our child.  Even though she won't be here physically, I know she's still here in spirit.  The last email she sent me was about this blog...about how she loved it, but wished there were more photos of my belly and of Dana.  So, here is her wish fulfilled...

Me at around 11 1/2 weeks.  I already can't fit in my pants and am wearing maternity shorts in this picture.

Dana making a fun discovery for the baby while going through some of Bobbie's stuff.

Week 9

  • Sleep: My sleep is starting to regulate, which is great.  I still get super tired around 8:30pm, but I usually stay up until around 11pm.  But the mornings are much more difficult for me to get out of bed and I get scared if you tell me I have to get up early.
  • Exercise: Met with the nurse this week and exercise is a go.  Back to walking 40 min-1hour a few times a week and I'll add in some light weights.  The one walk I've had since going to the doctor made me feel great, but definitely felt more like exercise than it normally does.
  • Cravings: Must have skim milk everyday and for the most part any real cravings I've been having recently are for healthy foods like salad...I can't get enough salad.  I'm not interested in anything fried or super heavy.  Also, I was once totally opposed to sweets.  Now the tables have turned and I love them!  Especially anything cinnamon-sugar.
  • Weight: I'm up about 2 lbs from my normal weight, but my weight usually moved in a 5lb range quite often.  And by normal weight, I mean where I was when I got knocked up, which is def at least 10 lbs heavier than I'm used to being.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: Tight pants and nausea.  Both which occur after eating.
  • What I am looking forward to: Moving in to double-digit weeks.
  • Think it's funny that: I have no interest in looking at or purchasing baby stuff...yet.  I know that will change, but let's get out of the first tri and learn the baby's sex...then we'll shop til we drop.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Hearing bean's heartbeat.  I wish DB had been there for it, but it was definitely the best moment of being prego so far.  The nurse was shocked she heard it so early, but the little guy had a strong beat of 160.

Week 8!

  • Sleep: Well this is interesting.  Of course, per ussss, I'm tired a lot, but I've been suffering from a bit of pregnancy insomnia
  • Exercise: A bit more active, but not up to where I want to be.  Should know more after talking to the doc next week
  • Cravings: Still loving the skim milk.  Today I wanted both pickles and peanut butter.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: The insomnia is my def least fav.  But I'm also not loving the pregnancy pimples that seem to be popping up.
  • What I am looking forward to: Little bean's first check-in/up on Monday!
  • Think it's funny that: I got such a strong reaction from the first friend I shared the news with.  She was in total shock, but of course is super excited and can't wait to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the little bean.
  • Favorite Moment this week: Just kinda enjoying the bean and talking about him (or her!) with my family.  We're excited to graduate from the embryo phase into the fetus phase!

Week 6, 7 and 1/2!

I was traveling all last week in Canada, so I wasn't able to chronicle how I was feeling/doing, but to bring ya up to speed

  • Sleep: I'm still tired A LOT.  Probably the one symptom that is really persistent and I regularly feel hungover.
  • Exercise: Still waiting for official OK, but I did a ton of walking on the mean streets of Toronto
  • Cravings: Nothing specific, but I've noticed the actual sight or thought of some foods makes me nauseous.  And actually I've been craving glasses and glasses of skim milk!
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: Still the exhaustion and the bloating.  I've pretty much been super bloated since day 1, but it's now effecting the way my pants button.  No fun.
  • What I am looking forward to: Telling friends about the little bean.  I've still only shared the news with our closest family
  • Think it's funny that: Some of my friends are starting to look at me suspiciously.  Not because I'm plumpy, but because I won't join them in their usual wine drinking.  This has been the HARDEST part of keeping it secret.
  • Favorite Moment this week: We saw little bean's heartbeat this morning, which was a strong 170! Doc also said I'm now about 5 days further than he thought, but we're keeping the due date the same, so technically, I'm 7-8 weeks along today.

Sunday, September 5, 2010

Week 5 - again.

Let me explain.  I'm not rehashing last week.  We found out this week that we're a few days off on our calculations, so Barney Bean is actually 5 weeks, this week!.
  • Sleep: Still tired and I plan to be for awhile.
  • Exercise: Waiting for the OK from my doctor.  Will probably take it easy until week 8.
  • Cravings: Started with nothing and hating all things sweet, but last night I had to have frozen yogurt for dinner, so go figure.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: The nausea and the utter exhaustion.  Oh, and I'm definitely crankier than usual
  • What I am looking forward to: actually getting to week 6! geez come on already
  • Think it's funny that: I'll now be having a Cinco de Mayo baby - names we're considering: Margarita, Guadalupe, Jesus and Juan
  • Favorite Moment this week: Seeing the little Barney Bean at our first ultrasound.  He's cute even though he looks like a little egg and is teeny as can be.

gratuitous belly shot...don't I look thrilled

Week 5

  • Sleep: I want to sleep a lot, but it goes in waves.  Sometimes I can't keep my eyes open and other times, I'm totally fine.
  • Exercise: Too worried about the heat outside to go for my usual AM walk.
  • Cravings: Nothing.  I have no appetite and have to force myself to eat.
  • Pregnancy Symptom I'm not loving: nausea and lack of appetite...never know when it'll happen, but when it does, it's a real buzzkil.
  • What I am looking forward to: Going in for the first ultrasound next Thursday
  • Think it's funny that: My pregnancy "glow" has got men drooling over me.  Keep yours eyes to yourself fellas.  But what I really want to respond to their advances is "Leave me alone.  I'm married and pregnant you creep."
  • Favorite Moment this week: Had to be this (see photo) -  D is gonna be the best little papa bear.  Here he is fully engrossed in our "What to Expect..." book, while the Miss Universe contestants parade on the TV in their bikinis.  I asked him the watch the TV and couldn't even get him to look up.  Notice Batman also not interested in the world's most beautiful ladies.
